Importance and Benefits of Vitamin A for Skin Care

Vitamin A can be obtained from either animal or vegetable source. The animal form can be divided into two types which is the retinol and dehydroretinol whereas the vegetable form can be divided into four groups, the alpha-carotene, beta-carotene, gamma-carotene and crypto-carotene.

Vitamin A is essential for a healthy skin as it helps strengthen the immune system due to its anti-oxidant properties which helps fight pollution and other forms of cancer. The Vitamin A is an important ingredient in the development and maintenance of epithelial cells, mucus membranes.

Deficiency in Vitamin A can lead to dry skin as well as skin disorder in some extreme cases such as acne, boils and bumpy skin.

The RDA (Recommended Dosage Allowance) should be checked at all times as it is always said that too much good of something can lead to a bad thing. Overdose of Vitamin A can cause toxicity which symptoms include nausea, dizziness, skin changes and more. Pregnant women should be careful as overdose of Vitamin A can cause baby to have birth defects.

Some of the foods that are high in Vitamin A are such as liver, milk, dark leafy vegetables, yellow fruits, egg yolk and carrots

Apart from Vitamin A, other vitamins equally important for a healthy skin are Vitamin B Complex, Vitamin C Vitamin E
